Do I have to be flexible to do
Yoga?
One of the many myths about Yoga is the idea of a
flexible body. First and foremost, your
mind is perhaps where most of your flexibility should
happen. The reality is that yes, some of the poses
do look a bit intimidating to the naked eye.
However, all Yoga poses are meant to be modified for
your body and through time you will become more flexible
than you were. You do not need to start out having
a flexible body. I mean if you had the flexibility
within your body already, why would you need a teacher
than, right? The objective of Yoga is to take your
body exactly where it is at, and strengthen it in such a
way that will be receptive to you. Your body has
its own personality and our job is just to be the
facilitator to empower you reach deep inside and shine
from the inside outward. Will you become more
flexible, yes. Will you get stronger and feel the
therapeutic benefits of Yoga, absolutely!
I don't feel that Yoga is
a real workout, it is just stretching?
Yoga is not just about relaxing, stretching, and
chanting sacred sounds. Yoga is hardwork.
You can count on that! By utilizing the idea of
static exercise and cardiovascularly inspired Yoga
sequences your body will receive a workout as it perform
key poses that will require you to use your major
muscles, your core muscles, and regulated breathing.
Yoga can be relaxing and you will feel stretched by the
end of class, yes! but it is also hardwork... In one
Yoga workout, you can burn up to 350 calories.
I can't relax...nevertheless
sit still in a Yoga class - Is Yoga boring?
Often times people mistake a Yoga class for a monestary
type scenario. Quite, spiritual, and too
relaxing...well, yes a Yoga class should bring with it a
certain vibe that relaxes your spirit and brings
stillness to your mind, however, Yoga is quite vigorous
in its demands on the alignment and strength of your
body. You'll find that in a Yoga class you feel an
unusual sense of stillness and tranquility while at the
same time an feeling an intense focus on your body.
Your muscles will tremble, you will sweat, and you will
not stand still for too long, all in a good way...of
course.
Am I too old or too
overweight for Yoga?
Absolutely Not! Remember, Yoga is all about
finding where you are at right now and working within
your body's personality. Poses can be done on a
chair, against a wall...and yes in heels too (just my
girlie side coming out). There are certain poses
that help where it pertains to the aging process and the
losing weight process. So please, don't let
something like age and extra lovin' get in the way of
you starting a wonderful practice.
I have a problems with my
body and cannot do Yoga - back, sciatica, herniated
disks, knee problems.
Yoga is therapeutic. It just is! Yoga places
the body in a biomechanically aligned state that is not
to be taken lightly. The practice of Yoga poses on
a regular basis will assist the spine, the body, and the
mind to be in harmony. Through proper alignment of
the body from the ground upwards, your knees will get
stronger, your legs will be roots for strength, your hip
girdle and spine on up with get the therapy it needs,
and so on... There are poses that are modified
specifically so as to alleviate back pain and there are
modifications that should be followed for those with
sciatica and herniated discs...so please wherever you go
for Yoga please SPEAK UP, to your instructor and let him
or her know your woes.
My religion does not support
the philosophy of Yoga. How can I take up a Yoga
practice if I don't practice a Yogic lifestyle?
Yes, there is an outstanding philosophy behind Yoga,
however, it is not necessary for you to be a practicing
Yogi in order to practice Yoga. All cultures and
beliefs should be honored and respected. If you
feel conflicted, please approach your Yoga practice as a
form of physical exercise and not a devotional practice.
At LotusVibe, we honor the philosophy of Yoga, however,
we approach our Yoga classes with the love of Jesus on
our hearts.
Can children do Yoga?
Yes...and they have fun doing it. At a time when
children are literally experiencing growing pains it is
a wonderful practice to welcome into their lives.
Yoga will calm their racing minds and harness the
flexibility and bone strength of an immature body still
developing. Yoga classes for kids tends to be
interactive, so they have alot of fun.
I have two left feet and no
coordination. Can I take a dance fitness class?
All dance fitness classes have great foundation steps
that are basics in every class. These steps are
broken down so you get the footwork and understand what
happens in your body at that time. You'll be
surprised at how the natural dancer in you will come
out. I've seen many changes in students, believe

you've got it girl! And now, a little more lovin'
to work with, oh hush! If you got some extra
pounds to contend with, you can still move your around
every day, can't you...? well then, you can dance too.
What kind of sneakers should I
wear?
Because of the various footwork that happens in a dance
fitness class, it is recommended that you use shock
absorption sneakers with lateral support.
Personally, LotusVibe.com students have found that
traditional split sole dance sneakers used by dancers
are great because of their comfort, cushion, and agility
on the dancefloor. You can

I can't move my hips...
Get your feet in the door, I'll get your feet on the
dance floor, and together we'll uncover the secret held
within those hips.
What makes dance fitness
different from any other aerobics class?
Dance Fitness classes are geared to promote aerobic
activity within the body by utilizing body coordination
and vigorous movement. However, dance fitness
comes from a dance perspective with an aerobic twist.
The winning factor here is that the dance out weighs the
aerobic aspect. Yes, it is an aerobic activity,
but first and foremost it is a dance class. We use
dance music, dance patterns, and typical dances like
latin, lindy hop, disco, hip hop, etc...to make the
class fun and exciting.
